Langethal is a mid size town on the foot of cliffs and bordering on a ravine. On the other side of the ravine the flower fields of the Dutch town of Duren can be seen.

The town has a through station with a small Steam and Diesel Loc service area. One side of the station has a double track leading to Salzgitter, (a branch to Eschbronn), Emswald and Baden.

On the other side of the station a single track leads to Saxony and eventually Berlin. No catenary on either tracks.

Rail service is mostly DB from Baden Hbf, which ends in Langhthal. Two BR 86 are stationed there and passenger trains are mostly 3 axle cars and "Umbauwagen". A BR 85 pulls freight up the long incline to Salzgitter.

When the connection to Saxony and Berlin is repaired ( a plant in the bedroom above was watered rather vigurously, and the rusted tracks have to be replaced), there will be "interzonen" through service by DB steam from Baden, and incoming DRG trains.
